The House Committee was formed in October 2010, to support and improve the Meadows Lounge facilities and operations during calendar year 2011. The committee is composed of interested shareholders and local community members willing to donate time and energy towards the committee's goals. Due to wear and tear over many years of usage, the chairs and carpet were in dire need of repair. The committee took on this challenge and implemented the "Adopt a Chair" program. Fund raising events were held as well as a campaign to encourage people to "Adopt a Chair" with donations. With tremendous community support, enough funds were raised to allow the purchase of materials to completely recover the material, refinish the wood and replace the casters on all the chairs in the lounge. When coupled with many many hours of sweat equity, the lounge now has a bold new look. The committee is rapidly closing on their goal of being able to replace all the carpet. The accompanying pictures were taken during the tear down and refurbish process in early January. This project is a great example of what a small group of focused people can acomplish with good leadership and a can-do attitude.
If you adopted a chair, come by and see the fine craftsmanship that was used to transformed your chair. The committee wants to thank everyone that adopted a chair and / or invested sweat in performing the work. |
